The
ISIAC 2005 will be held at the Planetarium of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Rio de
Janeiro is a unique city in terms of its natural beauty and the richness of its
history. The very special features of its architecture, beaches, mountains and
luxuriant rainforest vegetation, all within the one destination, have
contributed to its image as the focus of the travel industry in Latin America.
Rio is a city of contrasts: the colonial architecture provides a reminder of the
past, striking modern buildings provide a glimpse into the future. Two landmarks,
true postcard images, are known the world over: the Sugar Loaf and the Statue of
Christ the Redeemer. In July, the climate is temperate, with temperatures
ranging from 15 to 28°C, and little rain, so that Rio’s attractions can be
fully enjoyed.
The city Planetarium is located at Gávea, a south-western district of the city, 1 km from the Leblon beach. Gávea is a residential quarter, with a large variety of restaurants, several theaters and two medium-size shopping malls. The Planetarium, less than 100 m from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, had its new dome inaugurated in September, 1998, and has a museum and meeting rooms, comprising a total of 12,000 m2 of built area. |
